Make vit D while the sun shines! Louise Juul Mousten and I did just that and caught up over lunch. Louise enjoys being able to do R&D at work. In her words “It's not often that you find a company willing to let people spend time doing that.” She is also a master at translating complex models/theories into code and figuring out how to implement it and interpret results. I on the other hand have never written a line of code barring that one time in school I wrote some code to make a circle bounce around the screen, remember the black and green screens anyone? My R&D career was short lived too as the three month long dissertation was enough to highlight that for the sake of sanity (mine) I shouldn’t go down that route. But what I do love is software delivery, working with people, setting up and nurturing complex multi-disciplinary teams. Louise and I both love working in tech – a small example of how diverse careers in tech can be. We have one more thing in common, we are both active members of the DE&I group, Women in Modelling & Tech. Dahlia Valle Peterson and Louise with support from Laura Blackwood created a forum for colleagues identifying as women to connect, empower and inspire, through networking, socialising, sharing, questioning, challenging and receiving support and advice, creating a more equitable and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves. This is just one of many DE&I initiatives in Hymans where individuals who feel passionately about a cause bring together likeminded folks to support each other, to raise awareness, credit to the firm for nurturing an environment where folks feel empowered to do so. For me this has been an awesome way to meet up with fellow “techies”, have a psychologically safe space to open up, be inspired and have my very own cheerleading squad when my insecurities rise up. It's important to remember that 1:1s should be for the benefit of your reports, not the other way around. If you're spending 30 minutes getting a progress update on everything an individual is working on then your systems have already failed you. You should instead be focussing on: - Clearing a path for their personal success - Checking in with their wellbeing, fulfilment and job satisfaction - Giving them constructive feedback on their performance (good or bad) - Giving them a safe space to feel valued and heard - Building a strong relationship built on mutual trust and respect

I had the pleasure of presenting at the L&G Data Festival in our Cardiff office, where I introduced the concept of a Business Event Mesh. Business Events are significant changes or occurrences within business processes. This innovative approach captures these Events on a Mesh and makes them available for next best action by triggering AI Agents. Introducing AI services anomaly detection is possible. These Events can also be treated as Data Products. It has the potential for transforming how we handle real-time data across the organization, providing real value in several key areas: Predicting customer lifetime value to sharpen targeted campaigns Speeding up claims registration to improve service levels Proactively managing and preventing customer churn Streamlining data deletion and archival and management processes Tracking customer interactions to deliver more personalized services Keeping policy details up-to-date in real-time It was amazing to see the excitement and dedication around how we’re using technology and data to shape our future and better serve our customers.
